Here is my latest rosette. I made all the parts including the rope and tiles, however I have some areas that need touched up and am not sure how to proceed. If you look close at the tiles, there are some white glue lines where some of the tile edges didn't meet up perfect. I didn't notice this until I planed the rosette flat with the top. Now that the rosette is done, is there any way to dye or color the glue line black so it's less noticable once I finish the top? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

John

John try taking a sharpie (or a good art ink pen) and just *lightly* touching those spots, let it dry and again *lightly* shellac the rosette...

You should be fine after that...

I like Paul's idea. It might be a little tricky, though, where the white lines are right next to some white tiles, cuz a sharpie's ink can bleed a lot.

If this were my rosette, first of all, I'd give it a couple of wash coats of shellac. Next, I'd get a sharp X-acto knife, don some magnified optics, like an optivisor, and then gently scratch into the white lines until I had channels. Then I'd take some ebony dust and brush it into the channels, and drop some CA over them. Sand it down, and the white lines should be gone.

Oh, and nice looking rosette, btw.

Best,

Michael

Very nice work John! Arts and crafts stores have fine tipped pens for caligraphy etc. and they should do the job just fine.

John, that's awesome. I love the rope.

Thanks fellas,

I appreciate the comments! I think I will give a couple of the ideas a try starting from easiest to hardest, and maybe I won't have to go any further than the first try. I'll post feedback and pics to let you know how it worked.

Thanks again!

John

John,

I guess I'm a bit more concerned about bleed-through than others, so I have a recommendation. Try the pen solution on an area of the rosette that will be covered by the fingerboard. Color in one of the white squares that's adjacent to another white square and observe the results.

Best,

Michael

John that IS really nice.
And a bold move to use turquoise (or is that green?) lines for the inner and outer bands. Black is so forgiving, but that light color shows off your handiwork to great advantage.

John, lovely rossette, would it be possible to scrape a small line where the white is showing and put in some of the black CA? I know Stew Mac carries black in a medium thickness that shouldn't wick to adjoining tiles.
