Hello folks, that is what's been done so far, i shaped-radiussed and carved my braces for the top and the back plates, sanded the rim for the back plates, made the notches for the back braces ends and glued the back on the rim.

Here are a lot of pics

radiussing of the braces

Clinton, i also made a clamping caul, thanksfor the reminder

Then i started carving the braces for the top

Love them shavings

some more carving of the top braces

Gotta stop here for those with dial up but i will start another thread for the following pics! Thanks for watching and if you see something wrong, please feel free to crique, especially my bracing.

Serge

Looking good there Serge.

In this picture, it looks like all the braces are different widths and heights.

Just wondering if your following a book or plan of some sort.

Looks like it will all come out fine though, great progress there Serge.

Good goin', Serge!

Had me worried there for a bit until I saw the pic with the bridge plate caul removed!

Thanks Guys!

Hesh, all i can promise is that i'll try my dang best to have it finished by then but i'm so slow!

Dave, no, i only used my 3/4" chisel but i'm considering building me some!

Rod, as always you have a good eye, yeah, i do follow a plan but was curious to play with the second one from the upper bout or b-2 from my plan because it's right underneath the soundhole, just a feeling kind of thing!

All right, looking good! I like that caul, it looks like a cut off from a tree branch. Are you following a plan? Looks like you'll be boxing it up in no time now. It took me the same amount of time on the neck as it did on the box. Unbelievable. Keep those pics coming. Clinton

You're on a roll, man!    Lookin' good! Don't let us rush you, though, 'cause it looks like your cautious approach so far has served you well.

Thanks folks!

Clinton, you got a good eye too bud, it's a small log that was cut on the premises where i work! Yep, i follow a plan for a dread from LMI, PL11 to be more precise but i deviate from it from time to time, THANKS

Carlton, you are so right! i know it looks like i've been very productive but it's just the amount of pics taken over a period of 2-3-4 evenings that does that effect, i'm really building slower than on my first, Speed kills as my bud Ron always say! Thanks my friend

Thanks Mike, lookin' forward to see pics of your build also when you get a chance my friend!

And Carlton too!!!!

Serge--that's starting to look like a guitar there, bud.
Getting exciting, isn't it?

Good for you!

Wow, Serge, it really looks good. You're going to beat me finishing #2. I still haven't been back in the shop for about a month now. I did get my drill press part finally and I'm almost finished with my granddaughters swing/play set, so hopefully I can get back to building by next weekend.    I only use a chisel on my braces too. That spruce is so easy to carve, it's not a problem. I do rough shape the braces on the bandsaw and drill press sander before I glue them in and then final shape with the chisel.

You are going to have a real winner this time, Serge. Just go slow and steady and keep your concentration focused on the job at hand.

Looks great, Serge!
I think I recognize the bridge plate.
BTW, make sure you keep in mind how wide your binding is going to be. Ask me how I know this.

Thanks Ron and Coe!

Ron, good idea on the rough shaping on the bandsaw, i'll have to try that out on no 3. I sure am taking my time as you advised and i'm looking forward to hear and see your current build progress pics and the granddaughters swing/play set pics also my friend! Thanks

Coe, yeah, the bridge plate is purple heart, i thought it would look neat and no 2 is great for experimenting on things like that! Now, you tickled my curiosity about the binding width, how do you know this? Thanks

Serge

Good on ya Serge,

You newbie lurkers should be paying attention here.

Serge, I reckon you get the award for "best encouragement to newbies" just through your enthusiasm and the progress you've made. That axe is starting to look like an axe. Good for you.

Thanks a lot for the kind words Paul mate! i sure appreciate the fact that the OLF big brothers are helping me a whole lot, the sharing of information along with the tutorials make it a whole different ball game than when i was on my own for the first one. I still make mistakes but i accept it better, must be a line i read on Cumpiano's site that's helping also to be willing to make mistakes and learn from them!

Thanks

Serge

Thanks a lot Tim, believe me, after posting pics of my first build, no 2 is just a breeze! Are you building from a kit or from scratch? Is this one your working on your first?

Outstanding! It's looking more and more like a guitar!

I kind of like that end grain bridge plate, but I don't thunk it will glue gud!

Great work Bud! Thanks for posting! It's getting to be an event!

Thanks Billy, Tim and Rich!

Billy,Thanks, so you like my purple heart bridge plate? I thought you were gonna ask for my beer drinkin' alien to do the bridge support! Thanks bud!

Tim, Same happened to me, i had to redo most of my jigs, i'm pretty sure that after this one though, that the pace of building will pick up a bit. Looking forward to see yours soon my friend, thanks!

Rich, very true, i'm just happy that the weather wasn't so nice here and it was worth all the hours spent in the shop, when goin' slow, you can enjoy the landscape more right?! Thanks

Serge
