This is it!My first! A LMI unserviced kit with added lace wood rosette and rosewood binding and endgraft. I recieved the box of material Feb 11 and strung it up today. Cannot believe the innotation is right on. I'm a fanatic about guitars in tune. I sure left alot of room for improvement esthetic wise though. My binding is thinner in some areas,my finish,well, let's just say you can't see it in these pictures. I was wondering about the size of my bridge. Too big? I really didn't stick to any one plan,the LMI kit was supposed to be a dred, but I don't have an OM. It weighs in at 4 lb. and 4 oz. I want to thank the OLF for all the support and advice. I recorded it after breaking it in for whole hour. The mp3 is 331 kb,which is twice the size this website allows. I'll try to cut it down and try again tomorrow. It's loud and ballanced. It's got that mahogany sound. I'm not happy with the highs,but that could change from what I hear on this forum. I'll also try more photos. I'm so excited! Clinton

Hey, that's pretty cool, Clinton! I like the fact that you put your own creative thinking into the kit. The bridge does look a little hefty, though. There've been a couple of threads recently that mention appropriate weight ranges for bridges. I'd suggest getting a scale and weighing the parts on your next build; although, at 4lbs, 4oz., it sounds like you're doing something right!

Congratulations, Clinton! Very cool looking guitar.

Carving down the bridge somewhat could be one way of bringing out the high end more. You could still do that. OTOH, it might get better on its own. It might also sound better with different strings. And, it might also sound quite a bit different from out in front than from the player's perspective.

All that said, the unique character of its sound will probably grow on you. I think we often tend to sell an instrument short if we get stuck in our preconceived ideas of what it should sound like. Whatever its unique voice, no doubt this is the PERFECT guitar for a whole range of musical expression. Let it speak to you and lead you where it wants to go.

Ok, here is a couple of more pics. I did the neck and headstock with diluted shelac and the body was started with Minwax brush on lacquer. Don't believe the can, I got better results from the areosol spray lacquer. I will try buffing in a couple of weeks and see if that helps. The sound is pretty good, so maybe it will be my campfire guitar. Clinton

Thanks everyone for the comments. Serge, this was a unserviced kit so it was just a box of raw lumber. It was from scratch as far as I can tell. Paul, you're right, I'm already thinking about #2. From reading the posts,I can pick up tops,backs and sides, but I'm not sure about things like spalted wood for the rosette or bridge plates,things like that. I would also like to laminate my next neck and come up with a way of hiding the scarf joint on the back of the head stock. Again everyone, thank you! Clinton
