I'm working on my first two. Should have them ready to go by the end of the month - if nothing goes wrong.... again.

Sure we have hills. Ever heard of a hillbilly? That's me. My house is on a hill, overlooking the fair city of Russellville. On the other side of the hill is the Arkansas River.

I've been tossing out corn off the deck to my shop in hopes of attracting a big ol' buck. This morning my wife forgot my coffee, so I hopped out of bed to head downstairs to get it. Passing the back window I see a doe and fawn feeding on the corn.

0. I started my first in November 2003. I am french polishing it at the moment. I hope to have it completed in a few months. I just can't find the time to get in my shop. All my time is spent with my 3 year old and 4 month old.

It eats at you when you are having trouble with something, like french polishing, and can't get the time to work through it. Hopefully, I'll live a long life to complete many guitars.

Bruce--Sounds like a dream location to me.   About the only wildlife we see out the back door are lots of bird species and squirrels trying to figure out how to get to the bird feeder. Among the more notables, going back a few years, was a mother skunk leading her little ones down the alley. Also a possum eating the cat food on the back porch with the cat just sitting there watching.

The lucky 7th was compleated months ago.
I'm working on a "Mandolele" now.
It's back to flat tops after this one.

Nelson, I had a Chapparal on the deck last week, ever seen one of those? Road Runner, beep, beep. He didn't stay long. Wylie was after him.

Yes, Mario, we're workin' on it! I've got 'day jobs' getting in the way, but they're paying for the woods and the tools, so what can I say? Besides, I've got a thickness sander to build, a few more bending forms to make before I start work on the next three :-)

Bruce--We have plenty of Wylie's here in Kansas. Had lots of rattlesnakes and jackrabbits years ago but they've mostly disappeared.
Our cats out on the farm used to kill rattlesnakes and drag them into the barn, never did figure out why.
Sorry for the distraction here guys and gals.
I'm presently working on archtops #37 and 38 for the Long Island Show in May with another half dozen in the early stages. I also have a problem with the day job getting in the way.

This is my first post at this forum. Very nice layout
and a great bunch of guys from what I've read so far.

Nice job Lance!

I've built over 450 so far and hope to complete
number 500 before the end of 2005. Most have been
since i left Martin guitar in 1993 and began to focus
all of my time and enerfy on building flat top
acoustics. Before that, I'd built alot of electrics and a
small number of flat tops, mandolins various other
instruments.

Regards,
Kevin Gallagher

Do two halfs count as one?

It seems like I spend more time getting ready for each step, plus practicing on scrap wood, than the building takes. That and building a couple of jigs is causing this to take a lot longer than I would have ever thought.

I know your toungue in cheek Mario, but I have to say that I'm not really into this numbers game. I have my day job and when I get home of an evening, if we're not going out to play a gig I like to spend a little time in the workshop stroking some wood and generally relaxing. My wife usually comes out with me and sits the other side of the shop and practices her fiddle or Northumbrian pipes, and I occassionally stop and play with her, MUSIC OK.

I have only so much soul to give and I don't want to spread it around too many instruments. I want to be able to remember each step on each instument as a small triumph in itself.

I think that even when I retire I'll still stick to maybe 4-6 instruments a year, and they'll all be different from what I've done before in some way. I'll leave 'industrial processing' to those that need to make a living from it.

To paraphrase the saying slightly "Small scale is beautiful".

Colin
