Hesh, what if you found a way to ever so slightly copper up the top? Put a
little reddish brown in to hint at redwood or something like port orford
cedar? But I mean, ever so slightly so that it's NOT as red as
redwood or port. I believe this would still work with the chrome quite

Walnut is a funny tonewood unlike many that are really pretty right from the start, Walnut doesn't shine until you get the finish on, trust me you will love it once the finish is on and all the colours pop out.

I like it, it would look cool french polished.

Hesh dude are you seriouslygoing to put burst on Brazilian Rosewood, Gibson did it at a time when Brazilian was just run of the mill, I hope even they wouldn't do it today

I think you should experiment with shapes etc, and it is also fun to expand into new processes etc. It is one of the great advantages of building for yourself you can experiment, how about a Lute.

I am currently making my first classical and have thouroughly enjoyed the experienced.

All I meant on the walnut one was sometimes they look a bit boring during building and it is hard to get excited by them.

Hesh, you should seriously consider building Archtops after your next projects, that would be some challenge!

It is? I wouldn't tell a crowd of Martin fundamentalists that... they will take up the torches and pitch forks.    

It is a big guitar, and probably competes with a dread, but I wouldn't call it a dread. I think a Gibson hummingbird is much closer to a conventional dread.

Hesh, I really like Walnut guitars. I've seen a few Tony Karol has done and they look really nice under finish.

You know if you are getting bored -- there is no shame in taking a break from building for a bit until the bug bites again. How many guitars have you cranked out in the last year? (I've lost count).

As for building an Archtop -- my help (I sure Nelson, Brad, Craig, Paul and others) is but for the asking. (At the rate you build you'd be cranking them out in no time). I'll bring the Archtop posted here to Bob's and possibly one of the others in the works. It'll give you an appreciation as to why you farm out your finishing to Tony Ferguson. If you are thinking Archtop the Benedetto book and video/DVD set are the best at home study course I have ever seen. The other really good resource is issues #56, 57 and 58 of GAL which is a three part series by Tom Ribbecke.Anthony Z38866.8326041667

I really like that Walnut, it will look reeeeaaalll nice under Tony's finish. You will definitely have to post some of the "Xmas" photos from Santa Tony!!

As Russell proposed, maybe some new shapes, offset sound holes, bracing schemes, etc. Lutes, archtops, double necks are also noble endeavors!!
