Steve,

Houston Hardwoods is about a mile east of Hwy 290 on W. 34th.

Last time I was there -- sevearl months ago -- their stocks of Honduran, say 4/4 or smaller, were not nearly as extensive as Clarke's. Even at Clarke's, I have in the past sorted through a hundred pieces or more to find one or two qs ones with minimal runout. Usually I'm looking through their 1x4 (.75 x 3.5 actual) bins for neck wood. One or two 10' to 16' pieces, though, will make a lot of necks, so it's worth it. Last time, I was looking for some 4/4 stuff that I could resaw backs and sides out of. I checked HH first, cuz they're closer to me. They didn't have any qs stuff at all, but Clarke's did. I found a couple of pieces that yielded three sets and two necks. One of the guitars that I've posted pictures of in a recent thread here ("Two more nearing completion" or something like that) was made from them.

Best,

Michael

Thanks for the info on the local hardwood places. I'll definitely check out Clark's in the near future!

Unfortunately, I'm still "tooling up", so I'm not really set up to do much resawing, thicknessing, etc. Hopefully I can get enough space to set up a bigger bandsaw, jointer, and sanding area. Still I'd like to get an idea of what the quality and prices are around town.

Again...thanks for posting!

Jordan

Thanks Michael.
I feel a field trip coming on.
