Hey everyone,

Yea, it is not a guitar, but probably a more important build. After screwing up yet again, on my latest guitar, I decided it was time to stop and make a good mold. I think this is called a coffin mold, but I am not sure. It will completely contain the sides to keep everything properly aligned. I have been working off of an open workboard, and I just can not get things correctly done.

My latest pictured below, henceforth know as the "Dreadical", looks like a classical from the front, and a dread from the back. The reason? I did not properly set the upper bout sides at 90 degrees when I glued up the top. I managed to pull both sides in about 1/4 inch, thus taking away the nice curves of a classical when viewed from the back. Chalk up another one for the island of misfit guitars.

Jeff

Yeah that back is going to be very nice. Good job on the mold. I think it is important to continue to try to get the sides bent as close as possible to that shape so you don't clamp it under weird pressure. But I think that you will find that mold a very good investment in time that will pay off each time you use it.

Looking good, Jeff. I use a mold the full height of my guitar and really like it.

Beautiful mold Jeff, worth the extra time to build it right and it will be helpful to get your sides straight!

Love that rosette BTW!

Jeff,
great looking Rosewood! You will get plenty of exercise moving that mold around the shop too!
