I am about to make my first neck for an OM guitar that I will be building. It will be my first after doing a couple of Martin kits. I have read and have the Cumpiano book and have looked at many web sites on neck construction, but would still like to ask for some direction. I plan on doing a mortise and tenon neck from one piece mahogany; actually may do two necks at once, a one piece and a build up with scarf joint neck. Where are the best places to go for a mostly step by step approach for layout, carving, etc.? Thanks in advance! Tom Harbin

Tom, try Charlie Hoffman's site. There is a complete step by step on there, you'll learn a lot. Hoffman GuitarsJohn How38427.6092592593

If you can wait another month, just buy Robbie's DVD for the steel string. Neck carving and mortise and tenon neck ala cumpiano method is used in the DVD.

Not yet, his neck carving will probably be out in a few months. I know he is working on it, but not sure when it will be out.

Thank you guys! The Hoffman site is quite helpful, so I think I'm ready to give it a go! I also saw a neck routing/shaping jig that someone had built that looked pretty handy, anyone know where it might be? thanks again, Tom
