Summer Event OLF Swap Meet!

Greetings. Brock and I have been discussing a few ideas to get the membership excited and traffic humming at the OLF and we have decide to sponsor an online SWAP MEET event between the dates of July 10 – 21st. This should get everyone focused on this event, generate a lot of talk, excitement and pre-sale buzz. During the sale we expect to see our traffic spike and hopefully we can all do some commerce in the slow luthier months.

Here is how it will work. We will create a new forum called “OLF Swap Meet – July 10 – 21st “ (clever name, huh? ) . Each selling participant will get the right to open a thread and conduct business however they see fit (observing common OLF rules of course). We think it would be a great idea for everyone to prepare for the sale with really great pictures, aggressive pricing, special offers for larger ticket sales, and other promotions that will get the members in a buying mood.

As paid sponsors of the OLF you will get to participate in this event for free. You will receive a thread in the forum which we will mark sticky so you stay at the head of the list. Our regular members and visitors may sell by paying a $35 entry fee. No others will be allowed to sell. As paid members you will also get to go in a few days early and set up shop so you can hit the ground running. We will not offer this to our non-sponsor participants. We think this will give you the best opportunity to showcase your products in a professional and enticing way.

We are also hoping it is a way to attract new members to the OLF by outsiders hearing about this sale and coming to the OLF for the first time.

As the sale winds down we will archive the threads and close up this discussion group. We think this will be a fun activity for the summer.

I hope you all choose to participate. We are very excited about this event.

Thanks,
Lance.

Sounds great Lance & Brock. Where do we set up shop? On the forum or our own site?

Bob, we will be creating a NEW forum, just like the (advertisers) forum, that will be invisible to everyone except you guys. You will then each get a "thread" that we will start for you, you will then go in (your) thread and set up shop. Pictures (as many as you want) prices, etc. I would hope that you don't (link) to your personal sites, but rather keep it all right here, so when we (open) the "Swap meet forum" to the entire population they can all shop locally.

I just created a new forum and marked it locked so only sponsors and administrators can post to it, can everybody see it?

If you can, you can feel free to go in and start a thread. I would prefer everyone use either your name, or the name of your business.

We are going to require the members thread's to be named either with their handle or their real name.

Once you are up and running you can feel free to start setting up shop. Nobody else will be able to get in before the sale starts.

Brock, I don't see the new forum, what is the name of it? Maybe I'm just blind! I'm in this deal. I'm trying to have another product developed, and I'm not sure I'll meet the deadline, but I will offer some kind of a discount in some form or another. Thanks for doing this, it really is a way to create buzz!

Tracy, I think we have a few more bugs to work out before the Swap meet forum is visible to you guys and -- not-- the OLF population. Well get back with ya'll

I will be away for most of that period, well...really ALL of that period. I will have to think about how I can something set up so that it works to help attract new members but not leave everybody hangin'...hmmmmmmm.

Ok, now try.

I think I have it fixed so you guys can get in. Go ahead and create a thread for yourselves (again, please remember to include your name or your company's name) and you can post your stuff whenever you like.

I had a thought...

I think the biggest picture you should try to post in the thread should be about 500 pixels wide. Otherwise you run the risk of horizontal scrolling. Personally I hate this and find it very distracting. (just thought I would offer up that suggestion).

And to keep bandwidth considerations (and download times) in mind, you might consider posting a smaller image then link that out to a big image.

I know it is a lot of extra work, but keeping your thread in a reasonable size to download will be beneficial I think.

The threads are starting to look good. I took a bunch of pictures tonight of stuff I am planning on selling.
