OLF Swap Meet – July 10 – 21st

For several months many of you have been asking for a way to sell off some of the stuff that you don’t use and don’t need. As you know we will soon launch an auction site (LuthiersAuctions.com) which will be the perfect format for this kind of commerce. However, the summer seems to be the slow time for lutherie and it has been a while since we have all had a big “event” that we can rally behind – I thought it might be fun if we organized a swap meet. Think of it as a giant garage sale for luthiers.

The way this event will work is we will create a new discussion forum called OLF Swap Meet – July 10 – 21st and as you might expect from the title it will take place over a two week period beginning July 10th. All of our paid sponsors have been invited to participate and we hope to see a lot of great deals, new products, and other goodies from them. Additionally, any OLF member or visitor may sell within the thread by renting a “table” for $35 (essentially this is just a thread within the discussion group, but we are trying to stick to the theme of a swap meet). Paid sponsors will have the opportunity to set up shop early so a number of vendors will be up and running when the sale starts (presumably they will also have a lot more to sell.) The rest of us will be able to start our threads when the sale commences. When the sale ends we will archive all of the posts and close down the discussion thread.

We think this will be a lot of fun. It is our hope that not only will this be an event we can all get excited about, but it might also be a way to bring new people to the OLF. So tell everyone you know.

Feel free to post your questions or ideas. If you want to sell at the event contact Brock or I via PM.

Thanks,

Lance.

Lance,

This sound like a very good idea and should work quite well until the new auction site arrives. Including the official suppliers and allowing them to be prepared early is a great concept and will be beneficial to the suppliers and the members. Fortunately I will be saving lots of money because I will be out of state for the entire timeframe and will be unable to participate. Anyway it’s a great way to balance between those who have too much and those who have too little.

Philip
