I continue to wait several seconds for every page to load on this site. I'm on a fast cable connection and do not have this problem on any other site that I regularly visit.

I recall other people saying they have this problem here. Has anything been done to identify or correct it? I need to think each time I visit about whether I want to put up with the tedium of using OLF.

This is odd, I access the OLF from work (DSL) Home (Comcast cable) and from my folks place (also cable) and all 3 places run equally fast. I have no delay issues at all.

I have noticed over the past two weeks the refresh time has sloewd dramaticly. I assumed it was our server and not yours but I have done a bunch of browsing at verious sites and I have to say the forums refresh time is draging for some reason, be it on my end or the forum.

case for months.

I've got fast connections at home and here at work and have never noticed OLF being slow.

I have DSL at home and it runs great, but at work, where I have an even faster connection, it takes forever, often timing out before the page displays. I assume it's some setting the cyberpolice have at our organization...

Two different cable sources, random timing. Last week was quite slow. (Cleaned, deleted, refreshed, defragged, etc.-P-4 3.2 gig).
BUT.... I'll just have to wait.

I don't believe it's RAM related, but it's been slow for me too at times.
What else do we have in common? Which browser are you using?

I use Mozilla almost exclusively, but I have the same issues with IE - Fast at home, slow at work. Both machines have XP Pro with Service Pack 2, software firewall disabled, and both have 200 gig HDs with 2 gigs RAM and SUPER fast video cards... I suspect it is a setting on my work machine. Another behavior - On the work machine, after typing a message, I always copy it, cause I can rarely get it sent on the first try, and usually have to exit the forum, navigate back to the thread, paste my message, and then it will post.

Which I just had to do this time... Weird...

I have no problem and I use a cable conection at home and dial up at work. If you have to think about using OLF because of the tedium of using OLF I think the problem might be on you end. It is in no way that slow that I wouldn't think of using this site. Try deleting your cookies and temp files that may help. They don't delete themselves. Unless you are using Opera or Firefox then you can set them up to do so.

I wonder if it's in the way the software interacts with the databases on the
server? When it's slow for me, it's in listing the threads.

I've got cable modem here, and it is honking fast. Only two sites that I visit on a regular basis have regular lag times associated with them: Yahoo Groups and OLF. The OLF is slow pretty much only when I click on "Main Discussion Forum" (or return to it after reading a thread), not "Active Topics." I have always assumed that it just takes a while for all the topics on the Main forum to load.

No biggie. I'm used to it now.

Best,

Michael

I find the main discussion page is always slow to load, taking twenty or thirty seconds. Definitely a drawback on this otherwise very enjoyable site. I have a cable modem.Scott McKee38894.7149074074

I have cable at home and a T3 line at work and for me it has always been slow. Sometimes to the point that I have to back all the way out of OLF and try to come back from scratch. Somtimes when I try to back out of a thread to go back to the main list, it's almost like it freezes up and I have to back all the way out to make it work.

Slow here, too...not bothersome slow, but at times it worse than others. And I have no problem with RAM, or temp files, or bandwidth speed.

Bandwidth isn't the problem.

The issue is these cascading threads and the fact that our back end for this is Access. In the next roll out of the software (which admittedly is behind a few other projects at the moment) we will be moving to SQL Server and dumping the cascading threads. That should make a noticable improvement.

I access from several computers (four at home with DSL, one at work with some superfast connection), and have the same problem from all of them.

If I access the "main discussion forum" page, it takes 3-4 seconds to get a response, and then loads instantly. If I access from the "active topics" page, it loads instantly without waiting. I prefer the look of the Main Discussion Forum page, so I have to wait. Same problem when the site was on the old server (or whatever it was that changed).

I have dial up. Good things come to those who wait.
