Well I have one that may possibly be a first. Ok ya'll know what happens when you buff into an edge, usually the instrument goes flying right! Well I don't have the room for a bench top buffer so I use the buffing pads from Stew Mac in my drill. So what happens when the instruments clamped down & the buffer isn't. Yep right in the jaw!!
Whew!! I haven't taken a hit like that since my younger more wilder years. Nothing broken, a little soreness, a lot of embarrassment & real funny when you think about it. I kind of wish I had it taped, that would be one for Americas funniest home video's. LOL Ouch it hurts to laugh.

Hope you don't have any loose teeth?

Dale, glad you can laugh about it. Evidently the buffer did not score a TKO.

When I lived in Charleston, I found it nearly impossible to do woodworking in my unairconditioned garage in the summertime. Too many beads of sweat dripping on the wood. So now I'm in Duluth, MN, and its 95°F here today! One degree hotter than Charleston! Yikes!

RH here is currently 28% and dew point of 57°. To anyone unfamiliar with dew point, your reading of 51% RH sounds pretty nice, but I know your dew point of 73° is making a ring on the table beneath your mint julep.

Wish I could jump into the ocean at Folly Beach right now...

If you could get through the traffic Dennis. Charleston has grown and changed so much in the last couple of years you wouldn't recognize it. I live about 2 miles from the beach, close to where Mom & Pop's Sub shop use to be & it takes me 15 min. to get to the beach in the summertime!
Yea my little shop is air conditioned and I have a dehumidifier in it also, I just wish it was larger!
We're planning a move out to the country in the not to distant future, so Mega shop here I come.

I'm tellin' ya, we need Luthiers' Armor--say, in a lightweight composite. Oh, and a flip-down magnifier on the face shield.

Buffing wheel battles!! Yeah, I've been there. Did pretty good though, came in second place.

Will do. I don't have a lot of knowledge to share or anything like that (since I'm just now building my first two guitars) but it would be great to touch base with a fellow OLF'er.

Glad to hear you're talking about this incident with humor Dale and that you are ok! Thanks for the reminder, i'll be building myself a buffer soon so it's really good advice at the same time!

Now y'all understand why our buffers spin -towards- the floor, and never upwards... <bg>

Better to have the guitar slam the floor than slam you in the head!

Look on the bright side, your jaw will heal faster than your guitar had you used a stationary buffer and had it hit the shop floor

Yeah, and your jaw would still hurt from all the clenching while you fixed the guitar.

Yep! & my jaw hurt to bad to cuss, if it had been the otherway I'd be saying Hail Mary's till Christmas.

I need to get a benchtop buffer though. I'm having problems with my hands which is probably one reason I lost my grip to begin with.

I shaved for a change last night and look what I found.
