To start with, i'd like to say a big Thank you To:

Mario, Charlie Hoffman, Kathy Matsushita and Dave Painter for they were the first people who helped me via their websites but in Mario's case, it was in person also, Thanks bud!

More thanks to you all, my OLF brothers and sisters who encouraged me with undeniable support and positiveness and so many tips, i feel i can never repay you for what you have done for me, Alain, you are a great deal part of this, so Thank you my friend for being there all the time! Shane, you hold a special place too my friend!

Well, it was around 3h00 AM when the strings went on and i had a strong reaction when i plucked the strings and heard the loud growl that came out of this no 2, i still have a lot to learn but i know i must be doing something good to my soundboxes, it's so loud and clear that if it opens up more, i will have to use ear muffs to play it!

AAA Lutz sruce and EIR BACK & SIDES and bridge blank from Shane Neifer, EIR fretboard from Doug Kleist, tuners are Sperzels, purple heart bindings from a plank purchased at Adams & Kennedy in Ottawa last year, rope purflings from Shane nut is corian from my bud Coe and the saddle and frets are from my bud Alain. Please don't ask me about the finish!

Here's how it looked at 3h00 AM!

It's been 6 months now that i've been building this guitar in secret to my Mom and while my folks were over at my house today for my wife's birthday, i could not hold this secret any longer, my Mom cried, telling me i was crazy, that after spending so many hours on this guitar that i had no right to give it to her! Guess who won!

Here is Mom and the rest of my folks witnessing this event!

Mom and Dad playing and my brother Martin watching as my wife Line and her son Claude are shying away from the camera!

My Dad giving it a good try!

And i had to take my former baby out in the sun for pics!

A happy camper!

And a very happy new owner!

Sorry for the quality of the pics and thanks for watching!

Yours truly

Way to go Serge! It looks great! I really like your bridge shape, that turned out really nice. And the finish looks good too! Overall, this is a fantastic 2nd guitar. Congrats. Now on to #3 right?

Serge, that looks GREAT! That is way better than the way my 2nd guitar turned out. I also gave #2 to mom. It must be tradition. Oh, and I can't believe that's only your 2nd guitar. It seems you've been doing this forever. At the rate you're posting of 3,800+ posts per two guitars, you'll reach 100,000 posts by your 50th guitar. You da man!!!!! Heck, you'll be over 1,000,000 posts by you 500th guitar. Pretty impressive.

Cheers!

John

Thanks Tracy and andy! Yep, on to no 3 now, though i have a bit of work leftto do on this one. The bridge was inspired by the shape Alain Desforges uses, i only modified a bit to be able to say i designed a bit on this!

Mom is still under the shock, i told her i'd keep it here untill i come back from Bob's where i'd like to have it checked by more experienced luthiers so they tell me what to adjust if need be and i'm sure there will be!

Serge, I am sooo very proud of you. You stayed with it and have built a very beautiful guitar. It was definitely a labor of love and shows in all aspects of that guitar. The beautiful smile on your Mom's face just says it all.

It will be a real pleasure to finally get to meet you at the end of this month. I better get one of those famous bear hugs.

Wow, I've been following your build, but had no idea you were that close. Man, it's not only a beautiful guitar, but you closed it up quick, too.

Congratulations on such a fine instrument, and such a fine purpose for it. I'm already looking forward to watching number 3!

Bill

Congratulations, Serge!!! Your effort and gift will be remembered for decades to come. I personally know the feeling of satisfaction one feels by unselfishly toiling to complete a guitar for a cherished family member. My sons and brothers remind me constantly how much they appreciate their gifts. It's as good as it gets!

I'm looking forward to seeing that Purple Beauty in 2 weeks and am even more anxious to meet you in person.

BTW...see if you can convince your mentor, Mario to make the party. He's one guy who I want to meet in person and thank for all he's given to me personally. I know I'm not alone in that sentiment!

OK...now get busy planning #3

Wow Serge
That is beautiful as is the story behind this guitar. I know that the smile on Mom's face surely made the whole effort worthwhile. I'm looking forward to meeting you and seeing that guitar. Hey I want one of those bear hugs too.

My friends on OLF- Serge and I have exchanged a few PM's here and there. He is one of those rare beings that can give love to all and the well never runs dry. If given the choice of being a great luthier or Serge's friend, I want to be the friend. Thank you for sharing the joy of the moment with your mother and for all of the other moments you share with us.Mike
