Thanks Billy, Mike and Colin!

Billy, my Mum has only been playing for a year now and finds it hard but since she was about to quit learning on the cheapo factory guitar she has, i thought that this gift would motivate her to pursue learning and i plan on encouraging her in the same manner she did when i was young!

Thanks Mike, i really appreciate your kind coment!

Thanks Colin, i sure am inspired by the level of craftmanship you have shared with us here, luthiers like you help the newbs like me aim at being better and raise our own bars, thank you as well dear friend!

Great looking guitar, fine craftsmanship, I'm sure it sounds great. I really like the EIR, I'm thinking about using it on my 2nd guitar. What about your 3rd guitar, EIR again?

Thanks much guys!

Marc, my next guitar will be made with White ash B & S from Bob C and a Red Cedar top from Shane Neifer and ebony bindings from my bud Russell Rose! You're right on choosing EIR for your next, it really sparkles bright in sound! great wood to build and bend also!

Thanks Arnt, i'll be PMing you soon for advice on F5 building, i have 2 of them coming!

Thanks John, you are one of my favorite builders also my friend!

Thanks Joe, you forgot to mention the 3rd hand that helps me eat my Canadian Corn Flakes while i type!

Serge, sorry I'm so late to the congrats. What a beautiful thing it is to see your guitar finish and to see the smile it brought to your mothers face!

All I can say is I'm proud to know you and call you my friend. Thanks for sharing the moment with all of us.

P.S. This just proves that you can build with one hand while posting to the OLF with the other.

Hey Serge-

I love the guitar and that is a really nice thing to do for your mama. Good job buddy.

I like your idea for number three. What body style will this one be - another dread?

Happy building-

Wow.....and you gave it to your mom...

Serge, that's AWESOME man! I couldn't think of a better thing to do with it. I'm sure she's gonna love it forever, and she looks like she knows how to play it too! What a great gift, and the guitar looks terrific too.

I built one for my day a few years back, and he promissed to learn how to play if I made one for him. It sat in the case for a couple years before I took it back to fix an issue with the neck set.
He still has yet to learn even one chord...

Thanks Larry, Don and Mike!

Larry, you are a very kind soul bud and i have been missing ya lots, i do want to see progress pics of your commission if you please, it will help me put this awesome guitar down a bit to get back to my shop for no 3!

Thank you very much Don, i can understand the feeling, my Mom has a hard time learning too, it must be difficult as you're getting older and she sure deserves a lot of encouragements for having the courage to start at her age but if she quits, i'll forgive her, even if the guitar gathers dust a bit, i know she appreciates it and so does your Dad i'm sure!

Thanks Mike, i appreciate it bud!

Thanks Joe for the very kind words and also for bumping this thread for i wanted to do the same so Shane Neifer would see what i have done with the wood he sold me in January!

Today, my Mom and Dad were talking to my bud Jean-guy about her gift and all of them had tears in thir eyes, i still get great comments from the tennants here after 3 -4 days now, they are all in awe when i show my guitar to them, well, ahem, after seeing my first...no wonder 2 is quite stunning !

Hi Dave buddy! Thanks much!

I have a hard time parting with it, thank God i told Mom i had to keep it 'till after the gathering! Yes, i play it a lot, the sound is improving or balancing more with time, i'm no expert on describing sound but i find it sounds more complex than the factory Dreads that i owned so far, a very sweet sound, a very quick response and great sustain for sure, bassy but also well balanced as i clearly hear the treble notes!

My frets were installed with the fret press caull and brass inserts purchased from John Watkins and it went sweetly well in my drill press, i recommend it to all, they are made with such precision! I also glued the frets in with a tiny bead of Titebond and cleaned the little squeeze ot with a little scraper blade.

If you ever want to see my guitar up close, Mom and Dad will bring it at their trailer near Orlando next fall, i sure could arrange a meeting with them so you could try it out, it would be an honor for me to have my bud play my effort!

Serge

Well my friend, since this thread is still going strong, I'll paste here some notes that I wrote after trying it out last Monday. I was going to start a seperate thread but here it goes!:

'I had a chance to play this wonderful guitar last night... Here are my impressions:

It sounds amazing for the short amount of time it's been strung up! The volume and sustain are excellent. The bass growls but is not 'boomy', just nice and deep. The mids are very present, clear and sweet as are the highs.

Overall, it is very well balanced throughout the full spectrum. The tone is already rich and dynamic and will just get better with age and continued playing.   A real winner!!!

It has a lot of volume as well. After all, it’s an EIR dread!!! It sounds just as good strummed with a pick or played finger-style.

Congratulations on a superb sounding instrument. I’m looking forward to the next already!'

So there you go!
