EDIT 7/24 - pics below!

I have completed my first acoustic (second guitar, third instrument). I
keep waiting to post a note until I can get a couple of pics taken and
uploaded, but that doesn't ever seem to happen, and I want to thank
some folks for their help:

- Walter K, for sending me the fretboard I used after I posted my woes of
trying to make one from scratch. Actually, he sent me two, one of which I
passed on to Larry Presnall. Speaking of which...

- Larry Presnall, for being a locally helping hand. He walked me through
bending the sides, let me borrow his OM mold, and helped me sand down
my back, sides, and top on his hugongus drum sander. It also helped a
lot to see several of his guitars in various states of completion. He even
gave me one of his old side bending machines!!! He has also seen the
finished product and managed to restrain from bursting out laughing (at
least until I left) ;-).

- Steve Roberson, for selling some very fine, very inexpensive sapele,
sitka, and a couple of other bits, and for throwing in a few more that I
didn't even ask for. He provided several practice sides for free, which,
aside from helping learn to use the hot pipe, ended up serving as some
material for bindings and a pickguard. He also provided some technical
advice along the way and offered to let me ship back some wood to have
it drum sanded had I not run into Larry.

- and of course, to countless other OLF'ers who provided advice and
encouragement along the way.

The sound is good, which pleases me greatly. It's not a Larrive, but it's nice all the same.

The pickguard is indeed wood - it came from one of the Sapele practice sides that Steve gave me. Just made a template, cut out the piece, and sanded it down to make it thinner. It's definitely thicker than a typical plastic pickguard - maybe about as thick as a 3-ply guard on a strat. I like the look it gives, especially with sapele sides and sapele binding. I have not noticed it at all playing, mostly fingerstyle but a bit of strumming as well.

Stole the idea from John Kinkead for what it's worth...
