Serge, It sounds like you're really enjoying the guitar for Mom ! You need to build one for yourself soon to have around to play all the time, once you give it to your Mom. I've been playin so much lately and loving every minute.Thats a good description of the sound!!
That press sounds really nice.I might have to go that way too. I'm kind of tired of the old hammer in method.
Are you kidding? I would love to play that beauty.Maybe we can work something out ,Orlando is not that far from me here. Do they stay down here all winter? Thanks a lot man,

Thanks very much Charlie and Dave!

Charlie, i'm glad you like the look of this guitar and i'm sure the passionate guy you are will build beautiful and quality instruments too and the fun part bro is that i'll be here to witness that! Thanks!

Dave, they do stay there all winter long, you're gonna love them 2 snowbirds, my parents are very friendly and music oriented people, i'll arrange something for the fall, i'll let you know where their camp ground is and i'll ask Mom to take pics! Yes, you're right, i will build me one but let me hang on to this one untill after the gathering at BobC at least!

Serge, as many have noted, the look on your Mom's face is PRICELESS! She'll treasure it forever.

Way to go!

Dennis

Nice job Serge!

I see talent runs in the family.

Any other budding luthiers hidden from view?

Thanks Dennis and Paul, i appreciate your encouragements!

Paul, no, except for a cousin of mine who supposedly built a banjo out of a frying pan when he was a kid!

Other than that, my Dad helped me bend the sides on my first 2 builds

Serge, I don't know what to add that hasn't already been said by all our great OLF friends except "ditto" and "double ditto" to each and every posting.

What a wonderful testimony of love - your love for your Mom and your love for lutherie! Simply beautiful.

Here is a star from the teacher

I am imspired! Thanks.

If I may be so bold as to add my impressions upon playing it last Saturday.

First of all, it was tuned a full tone down from standard (DGCFAD) so I was a little surprised at first. FWIW, my Larrivee D-09 is tuned the same way with heavy strings as a sort of mock-baritone.

For me, it was easy to play with its substantial neck (like a nylon-string jazz/classical in shape and dimensions). Intonation was fantastic. Unusually balanced tone for a dread.

I tuned it up to standard. First position chords were still rock solid. Neck was super straight (zero relief) but I didn't notice any buzzing. Ultimately, I would describe it as "clear".

Good work!
Warren

[QUOTE=Alain Desforges] It sounds amazing for the short amount of time it's been strung up! The volume and sustain are excellent. The bass growls but is not 'boomy', just nice and deep. The mids are very present, clear and sweet as are the highs.

Overall, it is very well balanced throughout the full spectrum. The tone is already rich and dynamic and will just get better with age and continued playing.   A real winner!!!

It has a lot of volume as well. After all, it’s an EIR dread!!! It sounds just as good strummed with a pick or played finger-style.

Thanks Warren, as you were playing on this guitar, you probably noticed i was anxious to get your feedback on the sound, but your non-verbal expression said it all to me and had me less worried. And if you remember what i said when you started playing:" How come everybody plays better than me? "

Me you and Alain should get together and have a jam session sometimes, you both have a lot in common in terms of style and musical knowledge and i sure could learn from both of you's, who knows, maybe we'll all go see Don Ross together! That'd be really cool!

Thanks again buddy!

Serge

Serge, from the luthier/players' comments, it looks like it won't be long before they start responding with, "How come you can make a better guitar than me?!"

Carlton, sound is very subjective and i still have so much to learn, i feel rather lucky for the way it sounds! My next big challenge sure will be the finishing though!

Thanks bud!

Congratulations, Serge! Bravo!

What a tremendous gift for your mom. That speaks volumes about you, about her, and about your relationship. I just have to put in a few more of these:
