Good jobs guys, If I can make a suggestion though, Can you point the temporary server link to this one so that our lost brothers can find us easier. Right now it just says the forum is down.
Thanks, John

When I went to where it was for the last few months, I didn't get re-directed. I had to manually type-in the address. All it said was that it was down, but I gave the direct address a shot, and here we are.

Betcha many are waiting to get in.

Maybe for dial uppers it's different. It says Forum Down for Maintenance. I believed it for nearly a whole day.... bet it's fooled others too. I had to click the forum main discussion page to get here. bd

Some of the forum features (like jumping directly to the message you click on) don't work in good browsers (ie, Firefox) but do with IE. Not a huge deal, but it is something to keep in mind with the continually growing percentage of Firefox users. Could be the redirect problem is similar.

Lance, Brock and all involved in the new set up: Thanks! The new server is so much quicker, everything seems to work , (except that jump direct to message thing, I'm on Netscape) but hey I can live with that. Great job, give yourselves a pat on the back.

Mind you, I kind of miss my old friend "catastophic failure"

It hasn't got anything to do with that.... this is a DNS propagation problem. It takes a while for the new pages to ripple through the net. Some people's ISP update their tables faster than others.

We can trick it though if you give me the exact URL of the page that is showing you that the site is closed.

Brock, Sorry, I overwrote the old address with the new one so I don't have it. It was the Brock Poling .com Forum Top address at the main discussion.

Lance,
This realy was a wise investment. Newcomers will find they can manuever around quickly and enjoy the site all the more! The sluggishness never "bothered" me before but I sure wouldn't want to "go back"...you've spoiled me already!

Yeah, Brock, the problem is that Bruce, like myself, only had the 'the BrockPoling.com' address bookmarked, not the luthierforum one. Like right now, I've updated my bookmark to take me directly to the main page; no need to jump through 3 hoops to get here. I have to believe many others do the same.

So, when I hit the old bookmarks, it just said the forum was down for work. On a hunch, I typed in the luthierforum addy, ansd here it was.

You need to take down the "down for repairs" sign and put up a "we've moved" sign.

I never even changed my link. It always automatically redirected me to Brock's site. However, it would be a good idea to put up a redirect link on Brock's site to get folks over here to the original address.
