I am not known for my inlay work, in fact this is my first attempt at filling a customers request to personalize one of my guitars.

This star of David was a fun first project. I may make another one as I got a lot better at cutting the angles as I went along.

Matt, If you want to make your star a bit fancier, you might consider using an overlapped design. This seems to be a traditional form for the Star of David.

Thanks, no it will be inlayed into a redish colored brazilian headplate.

Mike, that one is definitly cooler than the one I did, and as I look at it, I think yours is one less cut per side than mine.

all I know is I am going cross eyed, I have a ton of respect for you inlay artist guys, it is very demanding work, and I feel like I am all thumbs.

Very neat work Matt. It's not so "incredibly" difficult after all is it? Careful planning & forethought applied to the design stage and patience applied to the cutting process will allow you to do pretty cool inlay - even without lots of experience. I'll bet your next one will be even more intricate.

In fact, I've found that the hardest inlay cutting to do well is following a straight line - like you did. The curvy stuff allows for a more forgiving (read looser or sloppier) approach that can be smoothed with needle files before being inlaid.
