Filippo you should ask Deaf Eddie as it is one of his schematics. He has helped me out heaps. But for what it is worth I am seeing a complete Series OOP circuit in pos 4....Back-tracking from the jack, the hot goes from the jack-tip to the volume pot then from the volume pot through a dog-leg of red lugs to the negative of the neck pup... then through the neck coil and out the black lead to meet the blue lugs that then mates with a common lug shared by the bridge pup positive lead and the bridge tone-pot.

I like the wiring diagrams from GuitarElectronics.com better than most. Try this link http://www.guitarelectronics.com/product/WD2HH5L12_05/Guitar-Wiring-Diagram-2-Humbuckers5-Way-Lever-Switch1-Volume2-Tones-05.html and see if this diagram will work for you.

You need to check that the hot side of the circuit is not shunting to ground. Most likely it's small blob of solder shorting across pos4 somewhere.
Using your multi-meter, back-track from the hot side, ie, jack tip, and find where ground occurs.
One other question...Have you created a seperate shield ground on the single coil pickups?

If you were using a tele neck pup, for instance, you must disconnect the ground wire from the cover and run a separate shield wire to achieve the coil's lift from ground in the series connection.

Do the pickups cables have 2 cores and a shield or are they vintage gibson style with 1 core and a mesh shield?

I linked the wrong diagram, sorry for the confusion. The one I meant to link was also a four conductor but is very close to what Chris posted. After reviewing the Tele diagram, I believe this is the correct one to use once you get the pickup leads squared away.

with the gibson wire and the 2 shields touching as soon as the switch goes to reverse the phase it means that the switch puts the+ to earth and the shield earths to the bridge shield, therefore no output.

The best solution is to shield the whole cable with heatshrink to prevent the cables from earthing each other

That's more or less what I meant, Filippo. I'm sorry that I didn't explain it better earlier and save you some angst. I just didn't have it in my head that you were using single wire with the outer sheathe of shielding. Glad you got there in the end though.

You gotta get all of that spaghetti out of the guitar. And those knobs and switches. Hollow it out and thin the soundboard. Then you'll have a decent guitar.
