Hello Everyone!



I've bought an epiphone les paul and as you can see on the picture above, there is a small defect on 11th fret. I don't know if it is lacquer or some kind of glue but it is shiny. Could you recommend me something to clean it with? Thank you very much!

Get a razor blade and scrape it off (the flat type razor blades from the paint and wallpaper shop)
Just hold the blade vertically and scrape gently until its gone. A little fingerboard oil will help show if you got it all.

me may be wrong but that looks like glue dribble that should have been cleaned off way back when...it may also be in the grain of the wood.

If its glue, a razor blade will scrape it off ...however you will be exposing fresh wood and then end up scraping the whole board just to mach the freshly exposed grain and.... if its in the grain of the wood ...well you still might end up scraping the whole board just to match the exposed newly exposed grain... you hear what me is saying?


So the question is..."what impact does this have on the sonics?" Right! So now the question becomes...is all that scraping gonna make it sound any better to your eyeballs?

That fret board is likely finished. Most import guitars have some type of thin, hard polymer finish. So whatever it is, it is most likely under the finish. Scraping at it may make matters worse.
