A beginner question...since I have only set up a handful of instruments.
What is the best way to clean out the finish that gets in the tuner holes
during finishing. I already once ruined part of the finish on a prevous
instrument. Do you try to get sandpaper in there?? Do you redrilll???
I find it very hard with Waverly solid peghead tuners, since the holes are 2
different sizes.

The problem with the reamer is that it is tapered and won't clean all the way
down the hole...esp the bushing side of a waverly tuner hole....since it is 2
sizes.
What do you do....or what kind of reamer do you have
Andy

That is what the dowel is for. You can buy straight reamer. they are tapered on the leading end but go to straight after a 1/2" or so . Check local machine shop supply houses in your area

Try the drill bit you used to drill the hole but make sure it is running in reverse or it will tear out. This works pretty well.

I use the same size drill bit I drilled the holes with, put a handle on it( dowel with a hole drilled in the middle) and use it for a hand reamer.

Why the need to ream? I drill the hole 1/64" or 1/32" larger in size than the diameter required, fill the hole with paper towel during finishing....no major reaming required other than touch up at the edges.

What an awesome idea with the ear plugs. At the MRI center where I work,
they have tons of them. I will just save the next set or 3 that I use.
